About our Program

San Luis Obispo's Crime Stoppers is a county-wide, non-profit, community program that unites the public, the media, and law enforcement in the fight against crime. The program offers anonymity and cash rewards to citizens who furnish information leading to the arrest and conviction of felony crime offenders. Anonymity overcomes fear of involvement. Cash overcomes penalty.

Crime Stoppers is funded solely by private, tax deductible donations of money, goods, or services from the community, including businesses, corporations, clubs, associations, retailers, and individuals. In addition, Crime Stoppers does not pay for TV or radio time, or for newspaper space. All expenses and air time costs are absorbed by the cooperating media as a public service. If you would like to help, please call Crime Stoppers today, at 805-549-STOP (7867). Tax deductible checks should be made payable to SLO Crime Stoppers, Inc., and mailed to: San Luis Obispo Crime Stoppers, PO Box 1523, San Luis Obispo, CA 93406.

Crime Stoppers has been recognized as one of the nation's most successful anti-crime programs because it works! Since its inception in Albuquerque in 1976, Crime Stoppers has been so successful that over 600 programs now exist worldwide. Nationwide, the statistics are impressive:

· 470,000 crimes solved

· $3 billion in stolen property recovered

· 90,000 defendants tried

· 97% conviction rate

In 1982, San Luis Obispo County implemented the Crime Stoppers Program. To date, over $1,520,258 worth of stolen property and narcotics has been recovered.

Mission Statement
